Based in Kampala, Uganda, George joined NRGI in 2011. He oversees a global program for strengthening media oversight of the extractive sectors. Working with local partners, he has helped to design and implement a program through which more than 200 journalists have been trained to report effectively on governance issues in the oil, gas, and mining sectors.
Prior to joining NRGI, George was a media educator and scholar in journalism and communication at Makerere University in Uganda. George has also worked as a newspaper journalist, editor and columnist, and a consultant on media and communication. His research and publications have focused on democratization, public affairs and media development, as well as the state of journalism practice and education in Africa. A former Fulbright scholar, George holds a Ph.D. in mass communication from Pennsylvania State University.
