There is growing recognition that not only does the mining sector have different impacts on men and women, but that policy and governance responses to the sector also affect women and men differently. How can governments assess and address the level of gender mainstreaming in their mining governance and policy responses? Natural Resource Governance Institute capacity development director Rebecca Iwerks will participate in this interactive session at the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development Annual General Meeting convened by UNDP and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) in partnership with IGF.

The session will seek delegates’ experiences and contributions toward developing a gender governance diagnostic. Following short presentations on related work from the World Bank and NRGI, the session will interactively explore how governments can strengthen the gender component in their assessments to improve development outcomes from the mining sector.
