Liz McGrath
Chief Operating Officer
As NRGI’s chief operating officer, Liz is responsible for strengthening the organization’s effectiveness to increase impact and advance its mission. She leads the design and implementation of cross-functional systems and processes, including organizational goal setting, strategic planning and learning, annual budgeting, risk management and organizational governance. Working closely with the president and CEO, Liz acts as a bridge between strategy, organizational governance and day-to-day operations, designing ways of working that promote clarity, accountability and impact across a globally dispersed organization.
Prior to becoming chief operating officer, Liz served as NRGI’s managing director and previously as research, data and learning director, where she supported knowledge production and its translation into policy reform through capacity development, learning and adaptive program design.
Liz has 20 years of experience working on governance. Before joining NRGI in 2016 she was director of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance at the Mo Ibrahim Foundation and previously worked for Amnesty International UK, the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and national human rights organizations in Nigeria and Colombia.
Liz grew up in Ghana and holds a BSc in economics and international development from the University of Bath and an MA in international development from SOAS, University of London.
