How Can Ghana Avoid Past Mining Mistakes in the Transition Mineral Era?
NRGI’s Denis Gyeyir joined the China Global South Project Podcast to discuss Ghana’s lithium ambitions, lessons from past mining deals, and what it really takes to move up the value chain in Africa’s transition minerals sector.
He said:
“Value addition is not a wholesale discussion. Countries must analyze the prospects for value addition of specific minerals, rather than simply following the global trend for the sake of it. In the case of Ghana, our analysis shows that pursuing lithium refining now would be premature and could cost the government to lose around $500 million in revenue.”
