Forging a Fair Future: Energy Transition Minerals and the New Multilateralism
26 June 2025 • 4:00PM BST London, U.K.
As the global race for transition minerals intensifies, questions of equity, sustainability, and power are coming to the fore. These minerals are vital to clean energy technologies and the electrification of communities across the world—yet the markets, investments and politics shaping their extraction are increasingly volatile.
In the wake of the UN Secretary-General’s panel recommendations, and with upcoming G7 and UN climate processes set to define the future governance of these resources, this event explores how multilateralism can help chart a just path forward. Can international cooperation protect communities, the climate, and the global commons from resource grabs and environmental harm?
Organised by Global Witness and featuring speakers including Amir Shafaie from NRGI, this event examined the role of governments, civil society and industry in building a new global order around transition minerals—one that puts people and planet first.
This event was part of London Climate Action Week 2025. To learn more about NRGI’s activities and events during London Climate Action Week, visit our dedicated page.
