REPOA, in collaboration with NRGI, invites members of civil society organizations, policy-makers and other extractive industry stakeholders in Tanzania to a training workshop on how Tanzania can best harness natural resources to realize its development goals.
This hands-on “learning from practice” workshop, which runs for five days, will focus on illustrating the links between and dynamics of extractives governance and the implementation of FYDP II. The training aims to improve participants’ knowledge of policy options and tools to achieve the plan's objectives and will also explore inherent implementation challenges.
The course modules focus on:
  • The socio-economic context that underpins Tanzania’s governance of its extractives sector.
  • The fundamentals of oil, gas and mineral resource governance for sustainable development.
  • Identification of new insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with extractives governance for the implementation of the FYDP II.
This workshop assumes prior knowledge of the extractives sector. It is specifically designed for civil society members, policy-makers, researchers and other interested practitioners to deepen their engagement in the extractive sector. It aims to support development of local expertise to ensure that Tanzania maximises the benefits from its resources.

Applicants must have previous knowledge and understating of natural resource governance and current engagement in the extractive sector in the country.  Participants will be required to actively participate through the duration of the course. Pre- and post-training quizzes will be administered. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to participants according to the degree of their activeness in the workshop activities, and upon obtaining an acceptable score in the post training assessment.

The closing date for applications is 15 May 2017. Only successful applicants will be notified. Women are highly encouraged to apply. All costs related to the course will be covered by the organizers.
