2025 Year in Review
In 2025, demand for transition minerals kept intensifying, while geopolitical tension and shifting economic conditions raised harder questions about the pace of the energy transition—and what a just transition means for the low- and middle-income countries that hold these resources.
This Year in Review highlights how NRGI worked alongside governments, civil society and communities to help shape more equitable governance of minerals and fossil fuels. Organized around our two strategic goals, it captures the progress, partnerships and policy engagement that defined our work over the past year.
Highlights from 2025
- Shaping the global agenda on transition minerals. We helped elevate equitable mineral governance in international forums, including COP30, and supported policy debates on value addition, transparency and environmental governance across producer countries.
- Supporting more accountable fossil fuel governance. We worked with governments and civil society to strengthen revenue management, methane regulation and evidence-based approaches to the future of oil and gas.
- Putting communities at the center of the energy transition. We supported partners in oil-producing regions to bring local priorities into national and international decision-making, including at COP30.
- Strengthening capacity and partnerships. Through training, technical assistance and South-South learning, we helped strengthen the knowledge and networks needed to improve resource governance.
