NRGI Submission to the Fourth Dialogue of the UAE Just Transition Work Program: Advancing Just Energy Transition Pathways
NRGI has submitted its views to the UNFCCC ahead of the Fourth Dialogue of the UAE Just Transition Work Program (JTWP), which will focus on just energy transition pathways and holistic approaches to just transitions, grounded in nationally defined development priorities. Drawing on our experience in resource-rich low- and middle-income countries, we emphasize that just transition pathways are essential to aligning urgent climate action with socioeconomic development priorities.
For NRGI, success at COP30 depends on a negotiated outcome under the JTWP that includes the following elements, each vital to achieving a truly just energy transition:
- Agreeing on shared guiding principles.
- Institutionalizing participation of workers, communities, and civil society.
- Launching a global cooperation mechanism on just transitions.
- Recognizing and mobilizing finance for just transition action.
- Strengthening governance of critical transition minerals.
Our submission also outlines NRGI’s principles for people-powered transitions: protecting rights, ensuring inclusion, distributing benefits equitably, and fostering fair international partnerships.
