Breaking Global Barriers to Industrial and Energy Autonomy in Resource-Rich Regions (PWYP Global Assembly)
19 February 2025 • 2:30PM WIB Jakarta, Indonesia
This session explores the reforms vital for resource-rich low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to achieve economic diversification and energy autonomy in the energy transition. Current trade agreements with high-income countries restrict essential policies like export bans and local content requirements, locking LMICs into roles as raw material suppliers while “consumer regions” reap the benefits. By tackling these global barriers and promoting equitable partnerships — with enforceable commitments to technology transfer and benefit-sharing — this session will equip advocates with compelling arguments and actionable strategies to align global, regional, and national efforts for a just energy transition.
