Regionalizing African Mineral Value Chains: Requirements for Success
10 November 2025 • 4:00PM CAT Ciela Resort, Lusaka, Zambia
Regional cooperation can enable African countries to harness opportunities and address the challenges around mineral value addition. Yet, as past experiences show, regional collaboration is itself challenging to implement.
The African Continental Free Trade Area and the recently adopted African Green Minerals Strategy have renewed optimism that meaningful cooperation can be achieved. However, establishing regional mineral value chains will require overcoming significant political, economic and technical barriers at both national and regional levels.
NRGI’s new report identifies lessons from past and ongoing initiatives—within and beyond Africa, in the minerals sector and others—on how to navigate these challenges.
This session at the EITI-ICGLR Forum will present the report’s key findings and engage policymakers, industry, research institutes, civil society and development in a discussion on practical next steps to strengthen regional cooperation for mineral value addition.
