From transition to transformation: Exploring the context for our global strategy implementation (PWYP Global Assembly)
18 February 2025 • 11:15AM WIB Jakarta, Indonesia
The 2025 PWYP Global Assembly will mark the adoption of the movement’s new global strategy to take us to 2030. This panel session is designed to reflect and provide insights on the big picture context in which that strategy will be implemented, including how the energy transition to a low carbon economy is being envisioned and carried out; the impact of geopolitical tensions and conflicts on decisions relating to oil, gas and transition mineral extraction and trade; the challenges of advocating for justice and equity in natural resource governance in closed and/or repressive political spaces; how power balances are shifting; the role of communities in stewarding natural resources to achieve development outcomes within the natural limits of the planet.
Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, a well-known academic and anti-corruption expert and a member of PWYP Azerbaijan, was invited to speak at this panel, but he is under house arrest and unable to travel. Gubad was arrested in July 2023 and is still awaiting trial.
This event is part of the Publish What You Pay (PWYP) Global Assembly 2025.
