Aaron Sayne

Lead, Sustainable Energy Supply

Aaron oversees NRGI’s programming on energy supply in fossil fuel-producing countries, with broad responsibilities for research, strategy, messaging, partner engagement, and development. His current work focuses on the risks and tradeoffs countries face from relying on gas, especially where they have renewable alternatives. He also contributes to work on the governance of transition minerals, having co-founded the organization’s anticorruption program.

In addition to his work with NRGI, Aaron has served as an anticorruption lawyer and consultant in the Sub-Saharan energy sector, with a particular focus on Nigeria. He has conducted investor due diligence, market research, litigation support, asset tracing, and complex financial crimes investigations. He has also advised governments and companies on political risk issues and served as an expert witness in cases of alleged wrongdoing in oil and gas. 

Aaron holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
