Building Sustainable Mineral Supply Chains: the Need for Transparency (COP30)
18 November 2025 • 11:30AM BRT Side Event Room 3, Blue Zone, COP30
There is growing awareness of the need for a sustainable supply of minerals to support the expansion of low-carbon technologies required to fight climate change. As resource extraction has often failed to deliver inclusive benefits for producer countries, ensuring that mining projects contribute to local development objectives while minimizing social and environmental impacts will be a crucial step towards a just transition.
This COP30 side event will explore the role of transparency in ensuring that mineral production delivers equitable benefits across the supply chain, including for local communities and citizens of producer countries. Speakers from Indigenous Peoples’ and civil society organizations, industry and international institutions will discuss existing mechanisms and best practices that can be used to improve community engagement in the mining sector.
