Talia Contreras
Program Officer, Mexico
Part of the NRGI’s Mexico team, Talia conducts research and policy analysis on gas, renewables and transition minerals. She contributes to facilitating discussions among diverse stakeholders to advocate for a just transition.
Prior to NRGI, Talia was a consultant on climate change, energy transition, and sustainable finance in different energy sector projects in Mexico. She led a civil society campaign advocating for a just energy transition, building cross-sector networks and alliances, and coordinating stakeholders. She also contributed to a project identifying energy transition opportunities within Mexico’s energy state-owned enterprises.
Talia has collaborated with the Inter-American Development Bank and REN21, producing analyses on global energy trends and tracking innovative policies, tax instruments, subsidies, and public finance mechanisms. She has also advised subnational governments on energy sector planning and sustainable energy policy design. In the financial sector, she consulted on sustainable infrastructure issues, climate risks, and sustainability standards. As a researcher, she has contributed to projects on energy transition policies, analysis of legislative, political, and regulatory frameworks, climate change and renewable energies in Mexico.
Talia holds a PhD in environment and politics from the University of York, UK, and a master’s degree in international studies from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico.
