Mining Indaba 2026

Africa’s minerals are vital to the global energy transition, but no country can turn mineral wealth into industrial development on its own. While governments are seeking to move beyond exporting raw materials into processing and value addition, national strategies face shared barriers, from small markets and energy shortages to weak infrastructure, high financing costs and limited bargaining power.

At Mining Indaba 2026, NRGI championed regional partnerships aimed at breaking down these barriers and building competitive regional value chains, reinforcing that being “stronger together” can be Africa’s advantage in the global energy transition.

The early months of 2026 have already made one thing clear: oil, gas and minerals continue to shape political and economic decisions in very real ways. As long-term transition debates collide with immediate pressures, the quality of resource governance matters more than ever.
